Visual Storytelling

By bringing together reporting and visual storytelling, I hope to create work that informs, preserves local history, and helps people better understand the communities they call home. Ultimately, this portfolio reflects my commitment to telling authentic local stories and using journalism to connect people with one another and with the places they share.

Video Work
A selection of stories and projects that showcase my ability to film and edit as well as critically think about my equipment and how to manipulate it to get the shots I desire.
We The People

Rodney
One of the many community members featured in our America 250 series, "We The People", Rodney represents those who uplift others while simply doing what they love.

Drone and Nature
Grand To Great
A journey down the Grand River from Grand Rapids to Grand Haven where it empties into Lake Michigan. The drone video is accompanied by a soundscape crafted to each ecosystem the river flows through.
Equipment Expertise

May 4th Moon Shot
An example of technical expertise when it comes to equipment. This was shot from a street corner using a Sony A7 III with a 150mm-600mm Sigma lens. In order to get even more zoom out of the shot, I switched the settings from "video" to "manual photo" while having the digital zoom enabled when using manual focus. Since the broadcast backpack takes a clean feed of the cameras preview monitor, the camera fed the live feed preview to the backpack which sent it back to the station and from there tion frlive to air.
